Okyeame Kwame - Winner

Many events come and go but events of this nature will forever remain on the minds of people. The past few years have seen artistes like Obour, Ofori Amponsah, VIP, Samini, Kwaw Kesse, Obrafour, Kojo Antwi, Daddy Lumba and the likes taking home deserving awards.

At the last edition of the Ghana Music Awards, he was just one of the invited artistes to grace the occasion but this year saw him go one rung higher to become a nominee for the Ghana Music Awards 2009 and win the topmost award, Artiste of The Year 2008. I just can’t imagine what was going through the mind of Okyeame Kwame when he was adjudged the Artiste of the Year 2008 with the award being presented to him by the Chief Marketing Officer of MTN, Mr. George Andah but all that I know is that he was speechless. All that he kept on saying was “thanks to Jehovah God”.

Since last year, Okyeame Kwame (one time member of the group Akyeame) has stepped up big time as his name has become a household one. His hit song, ‘Woso’ produced by Richie (Lynx Entertainment) pushed him up the music ladder and as such saw him perform at almost every show. Not many can people believe that this is the same Quame who about a decade ago was simply just one of those up and coming rappers.

His lyrical dexterity and maturity presently is indeed something else. He is one artist who brims with ideas all the time and is also very creative. No wonder his brothers are taking after him.

Praye on the other hand took home the award for the Most Popular Song of the Year 2008 with their hit tune ‘Angelina’, which was on the lips of each and every Ghanaian. Everywhere you go whether in homes, clubs, offices, buses and bars, the most popular tune was ‘Angelina’. On the airwaves, it was beyond description- blazing in the mornings on Kwame Sefa Kayi’s Morning Show and in the afternoons on Bola Ray’s Drive Time Show. Kudos to EKB Records for a song well promoted.
