Miss South Africa hopes to bring home title. Tatum Keshwar says she is ready to give the other 86 Miss Universe contestants “a run for their money” — but is scared of tripping on stage.
Keshwar, who is to represent South Africa at the 58th annual Miss Universe pageant in the Bahamas on August 23, is scheduled to leave for the Paradise Islands on Friday July 31.
She will compete against beauties from countries such as New Zealand, Spain, Venezuela and India. The current Miss Universe, Venezuelan beauty Dayana Mendoza, will hand over the title.

Women's activist groups in Kenya have slapped their partners with a week-long sex ban in protest over the infighting plaguing the national unity government.
The Women's Development Organisation coalition said they would also pay prostitutes to join their strike. The campaigners are asking the wives of the Kenyan president and the prime minister to join in the embargo.
They say they want to avoid a repeat of the violence which convulsed the country after the late-2007 elections. Relations between Kenya's coalition partners, led by President Mwai Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga, have become increasingly acrimonious. Now the dispute has moved to the nation's bedrooms.

Black United Kingdom beauty queen Helen Lawal was the target of recent racist threats, The Daily Telegraph reports.
The pageant head, Vivienne Lee, called police after she received calls from a man complaining about the Nigerian-born Lawal being crowned Miss York earlier this month. The calls, which are being investigated by police, have alarmed Lee to the point where she fears for Lawal’s safety, according to the newspaper.
