Alpha Blondy moves Summerstage

Photo: Olivier AmetchieA sea of energetic fans from all over the world welcomed Alpha Blondy, known as the “African Bob Marley” to New York City’s Central Park Summerstage on Sunday, July 19th.  The opening acts included performances by Lee “Scratch” Perry, identified as the “father” of reggae and Dubblestandart Sound System.

The Ivorian reggae artist branded for his activism ignited this eclectic audience with his strong political lyrics that convey global peace and unity.

The origins of the crowd ranged from Brooklynites, to people from Latin America, the Caribbean, and the Diaspora of Africa. The celebration and dancing to the rhythms of his dynamic 12-piece band, the Solar System was non-stop. Alpha’s poignant songs for the evening where Cocody Rock and Peace in Liberia.

Project Fame West Africa returns

After several auditions in major cities in Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, 18 contestants were shortlisted for possible entry into the Project Fame Academy in Lagos, Nigeria.

However there was only room for 15 in the academy and the opening gala last Sunday saw the elimination of three contestants at the Ultima Studios, Omole, Ogba, Lagos.

Face of Africa revamped

Face of Africa. Photo: M-NetM-Net’s star-making model search, Face of Africa, is back after the gorgeous Ghanaian, Kate Tachie-Menson, strode into the spotlight on her second attempt in the series, and walked away as the newest African catwalk sensation last year.

Now entering its 8th season, M-Net has announced the legendary search has metamorphosed from a four-part special into a dynamic 14-episode television series. “Our audiences love the Face of Africa story,” says M-Net Africa Director Biola Adekanbi.

According to Biola, Kate’s fairytale ending triggered more interest in viewers to know more about the lives of the contestants and what they do on the daily basis to get to the top.

When stars align, 2 become 1: Aishetu Fatima Kolo & Ngozi Dozie weds

The couple poses with the bridesmaids. Photo: Bella Naija. Sometimes it seems as though the stars align when a couple gets married. Aishetu Fatima Kolo and Ngozi Dozie appear to have towed very similar lifepaths and now they have come together and tied the knot as one.

The bride is a graduate of Cornell University and worked as a financial analyst for several years. The groom is a graduate of Oxford University and Imperial College - he also worked as a financial analyst for several years.  It doesn’t end there - she graduated with an MBA from Harvard Business School while he graduated with an MBA from rival Wharton.
