Nigeria unfairly dominates the competition with 11 out of the 15 contestants being from Nigeria. Photo: Ameyaw DebrahThe second season of the hit singing competition, Project Fame West Africa, has begun and this time the talent is even bigger.

After several auditions in major cities in Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, 18 contestants were shortlisted for possible entry into the Project Fame Academy in Lagos, Nigeria.

However there was only room for 15 in the academy and the opening gala last Sunday saw the elimination of three contestants at the Ultima Studios, Omole, Ogba, Lagos.

Again this year, Nigeria unfairly dominates the competition with 11 out of the 15 contestants being from Nigeria. Ghana failed to have representation this year after Joseph Nii Ankrah won the second prize for Ghana in the first season. Liberia has three reps and Sierra Leone has one. They are : Anis (Sierra Leone), Damilola, David, Deniece (Liberia), Desmond, Jennifer, Krimi, Madonna, Mike, Nicholas (Liberia), Sametta (Liberia), Savannah, Tarri, Tomiwa and Zoe.

Judges Bibi Brew, Kwame and TY Mix returned this season alongside some old and new faculty members. Actress Joke Silva is still the principal; music expert, Ben Ogbeiwi is the Academy music director; singer and actress, Dupe Ige is the voice coach; Zarah Udofia is the dance instructor, while Kayode Oyedepo is the physical instructor. The new hosts are Joseph Benjamin and the “adorable” Adora Oleh.

Saturday nights shall be for the performance gala where some contestants will be put on probation by the judges based on their performances. The eviction show will be on Sunday nights, where the faculty and public votes would decide who stays in the academy and who leaves.
