 As the curtains go up and the lights hit the stage, the rehearsing actresses transport themselves on cue into an alternate dimension, exploring creative depths of artistic expression by using their bodies and voices to tell the audience a story few Nigerian women may have heard before.
A petite woman in dreadlocks moves rapidly across the stage floor. Like a basketball coach on the sidelines, she is shouting out words of encouragement, signalling and directing with her arms. The stage choreographer replays key moments from the previously rehearsed scene, mirroring the movements of a particular actress suffering from a very noticeable lack of enthusiasm. The other actresses listen, some not so attentively, to the changes being made.
